  5. Approval of Bills

    • Second: Gorres
    • Discussion: Berg noted that this is a very short bill run since we are meeting on the 1st of the month. She also noted that last month no CenturyLink bill arrived so we are paying last month’s and this month’s. The same holds true for Amazon as we were trying to get checks applied to invoices and were waiting for things to shake out.
    • Action: All Approved
  6. Reports
    1. Director's - The Meural Canvas display unit arrived but wouldn’t turn on. It was sent back and we now have a second one which seems to be working. The furnaces have been acting up as per usual. Parts have been ordered and will be installed soon. Today was the big post-Halloween candy buying day in anticipation of the 4th of July parade. We saved as much as we spent. The WLA conference was good. There were a number of good ideas. The one page Long Range Plan was particularly intriguing.
    2. President's - Van Iten thanked Pete Zeimet for attending the village board meeting. Van Iten had talked to Village President Blau as she had said she would. Zeimet had attended the meeting and waited an hour and a half and left. The discussion never got to the library.
    3. Village Update - The American Legion has an engraved obelisk which will be installed in the park by Memorial Day if all goes well. Leaf pick up was discussed. The Police Commission is asking for a budget amendment to hire consultants for the chief of police search. A resolution will be introduced about all people being welcome and respected in the village of DeForest.
    4. School Update - The Framework 3.0 was over. Themes and trends had emerged which will be very useful in planning for the future. The “DeForest Way” really works well at bringing a disparate group of people together and finding common ground to move forward from. The Community Advisory Committee is also moving fast towards determining a long-term facility plan for the district.
  7. Old Business
    1. Discussion of Long Range Plan 2016-2021
      • Goals 3 and 4 were discussed and edited. Berg shared copies of one-page long-range plans that she had gotten at Wisconsin Library Association. Turning the four existing goals into some sort of infographic was discussed. Berg suggested putting the word “connect” in the center since connecting is one of the big things libraries do. Connecting people to books, information, tools, technology, and other people is at the heart of library service. Berg will bring back the edits and take a stab at an infographic for the next library board meeting.
    2. B) Discussion and possible approval of the 2019 Budget draft.
      • Berg hasn’t heard anything from the village administrator regarding the library budget. No action is required at this point.
  8. New Business
    1. None.
  9. Future Agenda Items
    1. 2019 Budget as needed
    2. Revised / Updated Long Range Plan
  10. Adjournment
    • Motion to Adjourn: Gorres
    • Second: Lawrence
    • Action: All approved.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:13 p.m.
