September 3, 2015 - Very, Very, Cool

It is hard to believe that this is the first Thursday in September and we have yet to celebrate that three-day weekend that “officially” ends summer. This year Labor Day is as late as it can be (the first Monday in September can’t be any later than the 7th of September, after all). Which means, among other things, that National Library Card Sign-Up month is already underway before Labor Day occurs too. This year Snoopy is the honorary chair of the month long campaign to make sure children and students of all ages start the school year with a library card. Snoopy poses the question, “What’s cooler than being cool?” and the answer, of course, is having a library card. It (probably) almost goes without saying that if you’re reading this you probably have a library card – because the coolest people read this column!--, but in case someone in your family and friends network doesn’t, this is an excellent month to remind them that getting a card is easy and very, very, cool. Just as the weather – once we get through this hot spell which we all knows happens the minute school starts—is starting to edge towards fall with the crops being harvested and the trees starting to change color ever so slightly, the fall book titles from many best-selling authors are starting to arrive or shall be arriving soon. Below are some of the new titles that just arrive this past week. Enjoy
